British pinup model Maria Fowler is in hot water after it was revealed she used a racist phrase. Over the weekend a british tabloid recorded Fowler outside a club in Liverpool, England. In her conversation, Fowler said, “How am I a racist? I banged a half-breed last week.”
After the comment was revealed, Fowler issued a statement: “I did not realize (and now fully regret) is that the term ‘half breed’ is seen by some, as derogatory it is a word that has openly been used by my peers through my life.”

The British economy has fallen back into a recession, according to economic data released today.
The setback has occurred after months of belt-tightening “austerity” measures from the coalition government led by Prime Minister David Cameron. As a result the British economy has experienced negative growth.
Under austerity the British economy’s GDP shrunk 0.2 percent in the first quarter of 2012, following a 0.3 percent drop at the end of 2011.
The British economy is now in a double-dip recession.
By contrast, the stimulus measures passed by President Obama and congressional Democrats have resulted in 23 months of job creation. The US GDP grew 3% in the fourth quarter of 2011.
Congressional Republicans have repeatedly argued that the U.S. should enact austerity measures similar or even more severe than those being enacted in the U.K.
British police say missing girl Madeleine McCann in a shocking new development in the 5 year old case.
London’s Metropolitan Police released a new sketch of McCann. Detective Chief Inspector Andy Redwood told Reuters that cops are still pursuing the case with the scenario that McCann could be dead or alive.
McCann disappeared in 2007 when she was 3 and has been the subject of an international hunt ever since.
England’s Prince Harry is reportedly dating Mollie King. King is a singer with the pop group The Saturdays and has also worked as a model.
According to British newspapers, Harry and King are keeping their relationship below the radar in order to avoid the type of media frenzy experienced by Prince William and Princess Kate Middleton.

British Prime Minister David Cameron doesn’t want children watching sexy music videos. Cameron plans to have a summit of entertainment chiefs at 10 Downing Street in order to discuss new rules blocking kids from music videos from artists like Rihanna, Katy Perry, and Beyonce.
Currently music videos are exempt in the UK from classification as 18+ material and can be purchased online without age verification.
Team Cameron, currently dealing with stalled economic growth, apparently thinks it is suddenly a crisis of national import to protect children’s eyes from gyrating hips.
A proposal is being floated to block access to music videos using similar age verification software to what is being used on gambling sites in the UK.
Tulisa Contostavlos, a judge on the UK edition of X-Factor, has admitted that a sex tape circulating on the Internet is actually her. Contostavlos had previously claimed that the tape was not her.
Contostavlos blamed a DJ, MC Ultra, had posted the video. Contostavlos said, “I am devastated, heartbroken.”

Manchester City soccer player Mario Balotelli, of the English Premier League’s Manchester City team, is set to be fined $379,000 for visiting a strip club. Balotelli was photographed leaving a club at 2:45 in the morning — in violation of team rules prohibiting being out and and about after 2 AM before games.
Roberto Mancini, the manager of Manchester City, told a newspaper that even though Balotelli scored in the game, it matters that he broke the rules: “If he went to bed early he’d score four.”

Claudia Dalgleish, a former glamour model who runs a modeling agency, now claims that Nick Griffin — head of the far right nationalist BNP party in the UK — exposed himself to her and sent her lewd texts.

Eight people were arrested in connection with a scandal at Rupert Murdoch’s British newspaper, The Sun. Five journalists, along with a police officer, member of the ministry of defense and a member of the military, were arrested.
The investigation is in relation to possible illegal payments made in exchange for news stories.
The ongoing investigation into phone hacking at Murdoch’s News Corp. has seen the closure of the News of the World and the arrest of several News Corp. staffers.

Katie Price (stage name Jordan) was the unlikely winner of a highbrow debate at Cambridge University.
Price took on Rachel Johnson (sister of London mayor Boris Johnson) and journalist Liz Jones in front of 800 students. Price argued against the notion that “the only limit to female success is female ambition.”
Both Johnson and Jones took swipes at Price’s penchant for plastic surgery, nude pin-ups and writing trashy novels, but despite stumbling through some of her presentation, Price won the debate in a landslide. 497 voted in her favor, 29 were opposed and 51 abstained.

Jonathan Ive (aka Jony Ive), the designer behind Apple’s iPod and iPad will be knighted by Queen Elizabeth.
In a press release, the Queen announced that “Jonathan (Jony) Ive has been appointed by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II a Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE).”
The release explained that Ive was being honored for his “services to design and enterprise.”

The British Advertising Standards Authority has pulled an ad for the Marc Jacobs fragrance, Oh Lola. The ad depicts actress Dakota Fanning sitting with a perfume bottle between her legs.
The agency described the ad: “We noted that the model was holding up the perfume bottle which rested in her lap between her legs and we considered that its position was sexually provocative. We understood the model was 17 years old but we considered she looked under the age of 16. We considered that the length of her dress, her leg and position of the perfume bottle drew attention to her sexuality. Testimony today in a committee of the UK parliament contradicts earlier testimony from James Murdoch, the deputy COO of Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. media empire. Former legal affairs manager for News Of The World Tom Crone testified that he was “certain” he told Murdoch about an e-mail that warned that hacking at News Corp. was widespread.
News Corp. initially claimed that a rogue reporter had hacked into the phones of celebrities, members of the royal family, and other news subjects. Later it was proven that the practice was widespread. [Guardian]
The UK parliament is set to interview more News Corp. executives in its continuing probe of phone hacking at Rupert Murdoch’s media giant. Colin Myler, an editor of the shuttered News of The World is set to testify, as is former legal manager Tom Crone. Both men have said that testimony offered by James Murdoch (the company’s deputy COO) that he was unaware of the widespread phone hacking was untrue.

The UK economy is still suffering, as unemployment has risen in the last three months according to a new survey. 38,000 more people were unemployed, as the British government implemented cuts to social programs that were supposed to help boost the economy.

A new study says U.K. men 18-24 spend an average of two hours a week watching porn, while women the same ages view just 15 minutes in the same period.

A 32 year old man has been arrested in the Joanna Yeates murder investigation in England. Canynge Road in Bristol was closed off after the arrest. Authorities are not releasing the man’s name. Senior investigative officer Detective Chief Inspector Phil Jones said, “I would like to thank the public for their continued support for the investigation and the information they have provided to us.”
In a stock swap, Rosneft, which is owned by the Russian government, will take a 5% stake in BP. In exchange, the company behind the Gulf oil spill will take 9.5% of Rosneft.
