A new study finds that ice cream has an effect on the human brain that is similar to cocaine. The study, found in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, says that overeating ice cream dulls the reward effect usually associated with occasional treats.
Dr Kyle Burger, co-author of the study, says that “This down-regulation pattern is seen with frequent drug use, where the more an individual uses the drug, the less reward they receive from using it.”
The study gave people milkshakes as they monitored their brains with a Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging Machine. The people who consumed the most ice cream craved it more, but enjoyed eating it less.
As weeks went by, those who ate the most ice cream had to eat more to match the pleasure level of those given more limited quantities of the treat.

Elementary School Under Fire For Inviting “Hooters Girl” Brittany Morgan (PHOTOS) To Career Day
What’s going on in today’s schools? Parents with children in Calvin A. Hunsinger School in Clearwater, Florida, are upset that a waitress from chicken wing chain Hooters was invited to talk to students for career day.
The chain is well known for the skimpy outfits it dresses its all-female wait staff in. The principal defended the talk at the special needs school, telling the St. Petersburg Times in an e-mail, “Working as a waiter or waitress in order to achieve higher goals should be commended.”
The Hooters Girl, as the restaurant describes them, is 23 year old Brittany Morgan, who works at the Clearwater Hooter’s. Morgan told the paper, “We’re aspiring to do other things in life. This isn’t our career.”

What’s Victoria’s Secret? It might be not feeding the models, say critics of the body images portrayed on Tuesday’s televised fashion show.
It’s “eating disorder porn,” says Harvard pediatrician Dr. Michael Rich. “They are a fantasy that drives you to extreme behaviors which require overcoming normal physiological and instinctual survival drive.”
Rich heads the Center on Media and Child Health at Children’s Hospital Boston, which studies how kids are affected by images in movies, television and the Internet. He and other health professionals interviewed by CBS News worry that the ultra-thin models like those who appeared on the Victoria’s Secret show are pushing young women into unrealistic ideals and, in some cases, eating disorders.

For 10 weeks, Mark Haub, a professor of human nutrition at Kansas State University, ate one of these sugary cakelets every three hours, instead of meals. To add variety in his steady stream of Hostess and Little Debbie snacks, Haub munched on Doritos chips, sugary cereals and Oreos, too.
His premise: That in weight loss, pure calorie counting is what matters most — not the nutritional value of the food.
The premise held up: On his “convenience store diet,” he shed 27 pounds in two months.
