The next time you fly, you can be sure airport security has you protected from spray tans, based on one model’s tale.
Fitness model Laura Prestin, who hails from Canada, has been featured in magazines like American Curves and Muscle Magazine. She has been a fitness trainer for celebrities and Playboy models.
Prestin says her trip to Cancun ran into some roadblocks when a machine used by airport security to screen travelers showed a “big, red flashing 88%”which caused her to be pulled aside by security guards.
Prestin said the guards brought her “into some room” and began “rummaging through my bag” while also questioning her if she could “think of any chemical that would be so potent or leave such an impact on the screening?”
Initially, she said no, unable to come up with a plausible answer for the government agents.
After thinking about the various cosmetics and hair care products she carried with her, Prestin remembered that she had received a spray tan the night before.
After explaining the tan to the security agents, Prestin said, “they burst out laughing, patting me on the back and putting all my stuff back together.”
The model sees her trip as a cautionary tale: “A lesson for all the athletes, the models, and any other traveller who gets randomly selected for a chemical screening, make sure you consider your spray tan.”
New Tim Tebow fans in New York will have to wait to buy official NFL jerseys for the newest New York Jet.
Due to a switchover from Reebok to Nike as the official jersey manufacturer for the league, new Tebow jerseys won’t be available until April.
According to Long Island Business News, Nike plans to revamp the designs of all 32 team jerseys and can’t make Tebow apparel just yet. Sports retail giant Modell’s Sporting Goods tells the publication they’re considering asking Reebok for a special Tebow run to satisfy demand.

Model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley has been declared the “face of 2012″ by England’s Guardian newspaper. The British-born model was recently seen in the third Transformers movie and has done photo shoots for Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, FHM, Burberry, and Victoria’s Secret. She is dating and lives with action star Jason Statham.
In an interview with the Guardian, Huntington-Whiteley claims she “grew up in Devon on a farm” and that she was “gangly and awkward” as a teenager.
At 16 she left school to become a model, and was bullied by other older, more experienced women. When she got a contract with Victoria’s Secret, the entire equation changed and she was able to start calling the shots on her career.
She currently lives in Los Angeles, but says, “I miss Britain. I miss the culture, the TV, the radio, the pubs, the comedy, the food, the beautiful countryside.”

MTV and Adult Swim are refusing to run a new ad for the Zoo York clothing line featuring Sports Illustrated cover model Kate Upton. The ad shows two cockroaches discussing Upton using sexual innuendo.
The networks have refused the ad, saying the profanity is too much for them and that Upton’s “erect nipple” is visible.

Lindsay Lohan is preparing to visit Manila in the Philippines for a fashion show.
A local paper reports that Lohan will visit the country in order to promote Jag Jeans, a company she has previously worked with. Billboards in Manila already feature Lohan in ads for the company.
A study from University of Rochester researcher Adam Pazda in the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology found that when men saw a woman wearing red they were more likely to believe that she was interested in sex.
The increased perception of sexual interest apparently has its roots in basic biology.
When primates become fertile, estrogen levels shoot up and blood vessels cause the face to turn red. It’s a signal to males that it is time for reproduction.

American women are going crazy for larger buttocks, according to statistics from the plastic surgery industry. The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery says $31 million was spent on buttock augmentation surgeries in 2010, an increase of 40% from the previous year.
Some plastic surgeons attribute the increase to the popularity of celebrities like Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez and Kim Kardashian, known for their curves rather than the rail-thin figures of the Paris Hilton set. [LVRJ]
Playboy model Lindsay Lohan has signed a deal to endorse FCUK’s “Friction.” In a new ad for the perfume, photographed by Yu Tsai (her Playboy photographer), Lohan romps with pinup model Petey Wright.

Jag Jeans has signed Playboy model Lindsay Lohan as their new spokesmodel. Lohan, recently seen nude in Playboy, posed for the boutique jeans brand.
A Jag spokesperson promoted the signing saying, “Lindsay embodies the strength and fearlessness of the woman of today. She is unafraid to be who she is.”

The British Advertising Standards Authority has pulled an ad for the Marc Jacobs fragrance, Oh Lola. The ad depicts actress Dakota Fanning sitting with a perfume bottle between her legs.
The agency described the ad: “We noted that the model was holding up the perfume bottle which rested in her lap between her legs and we considered that its position was sexually provocative. We understood the model was 17 years old but we considered she looked under the age of 16. We considered that the length of her dress, her leg and position of the perfume bottle drew attention to her sexuality. Because of that, along with her appearance, we considered the ad could be seen to sexualise a child.” [Telegraph]

Nike is set to release the Nike Air Mag, a shoe inspired by shoes first seen in the iconic Back To The Future Part 2.
The shoes were a “futuristic” design, seen in the year 2015 by the time traveling Marty McFly. In the movie the shoes zipped themselves and conformed to the foot of the wearer.
The Nike Air Mag will be auctioned on eBay to benefit the Michael J. Fox Foundation. [Nice Kicks]
JC Penney is being criticized for stocking a shirt for young girls that says “I’m Too Pretty To Do Homework.” The shirt, which costs $9.99 is accompanied by JC Penney ad copy that says “who has time for homework when there’s a new Justin Bieber album out?”
The shirt has now apparently been pulled from JC Penney’s online store.
Hailey Clauson, a 16 year old model, is suing Urban Outfitters for what she describes as a “salacious” picture the chain is using on t-shirts. Clauson is suing for $28 million with the claim that the shot is “destroying her reputation.” Clauson’s lawsuit claims the photographer made “her crotch area the focal point of the image.” [E!]

Starlets Emma Stone and Olivia Wilde have signed deals with cosmetic giant Revlon to be its “global ambassadors.” The company announced the collaboration today, boasting that “Stone and Wilde will become the faces of new and existing Revlon products and will appear in global, multimedia campaigns that span television, print, in-store, and digital and social platforms.”
Revlon says that Wilde and Stone will be part of a roll-out in 2012.

Oscar winner Natalie Portman, who is the spokesperson for Miss Dior Cherie, issued a statement blasting designer John Galliano after video surfaced of him making pro-Hitler, anti-Jewish statements. In a statement, Portman said “I am deeply shocked and disgusted by the video. In light of this video, and as an individual who is proud to be Jewish, I will not be associated with Mr. Galliano in any way. I hope at the very least, these terrible comments remind us to reflect and act upon combating these still-existing prejudices that are the opposite of all that is beautiful.”

It’s a deal that’s been months in the making, but Rihanna is now officially Hollywood’s newest perfumer with the launch of her debut signature scent, Reb’l Fleur. “My grandmother in Barbados used to call me her Rebel Flower,” the singer tells PEOPLE of what inspired the fragrance’s name.
Investigators on Friday were seeking a search warrant to examine the boyfriend of a fashion designer found dead in a bathtub at a posh hotel in the hopes of finding evidence that may help them determine how she died.
Nicholas Brooks, the son of “You Light Up My Life” songwriter Joseph Brooks, was being held by police as they worked to obtain the warrant. He has been in custody since his girlfriend, Sylvie Cachay, was discovered around 3:30 a.m. Thursday at the Soho House hotel. Police would look for traces of DNA, skin under his fingernails, and any possible signs of struggle or trauma, said Chief NYPD spokesman Paul Browne.
Most consumers will probably never have a problem with exposure to formaldehyde, though it can have serious health implications for people who work with the chemical in factories. The biggest potential issue for those wearing wrinkle-resistant clothing can be a skin condition called contact dermatitis. It affects a small group of people and can cause itchy skin, rashes and blisters, according to a recent government study on formaldehyde in textiles. Still, some critics said more studies on a wider array of textiles and clothing chemicals were needed, including a closer look at the effects of cumulative exposure. At the very least, they said, better labeling would help

Sylvie Cachay, 33, was found in a Soho House room after police received a call from the Manhattan hotel at about 3 a.m., police said. Water had been leaking from a ceiling, and hotel staff went to the floor above, where they found Cachay, dressed in a sweater and underwear, submerged in the tub.
Cachay’s boyfriend, Nicholas Brooks, the 24-year-old son of “You Light Up My Life” songwriter Joseph Brooks, was seen leaving the hotel earlier and returned at about 3:30 a.m. to find police there, the law enforcement official said. In an unrelated case, the father is fighting charges that accuse him of molesting would-be actresses in his Manhattan apartment.
