America loves the Avengers. The comic book action romp broke North American box office records, hauling in a massive $200.3 million.
The Avengers made almost $40 million more than the previous box office champ, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2.
Worldwide, Avengers has brought in a staggering $641.8 million in just 12 days.
America has gone mad for The Avengers as midnight showings of the comic book epic hauled in $18.7 million.
That’s the 8th best for a midnight screening ever.
Avengers has already hauled in $304 million around the world and is set to dominate the U.S. box office with its release today.
A new viral video mashes up the upcoming Avengers movie with the theme song and credits from the classic TV show Friends. Watch:
The Avengers are dominating the global box office, before the comic book blockbuster is even released in America.
So far The Avengers has brought in $178.4 million in its first week of release in 39 countries. The movie, released by Marvel Comics owner Disney, has done well in Mexico, Brazil, Taiwan and the United Kingdom.
Avengers is expected to quickly top $150 million in its U.S. release.

Osama Bin Laden is back, and he’s a giant mutant in the pages of the Savage Dragon comic book. In the December issue from Image Comics, artist/writer Erik Larsen depicts Bin Laden as a warped monster bent on revenge.
The solicitation for the issue notes “America’s most wanted terrorist mastermind is back! Only this time he’s a giant mutated killer hellbent on destroying the land of the free! Malcolm Dragon and Battle Girl are in for the greatest fight of their lives but what chance does a couple of high school students have against America’s public enemy #1?”

The producers of The Dark Knight Rises have requested a permit to shoot on Wall Street, near the site of the ongoing Occupy Wall Street protests. The movie filming would likely put more pressure on the neighborhood, where nerves are already on edge as a result of the month-long demonstration. DC Comics newly rebooted Justice League has been a sales hit. The first title in the “New 52″ initiative to restart the DC Comics universe has now officially sold more copies than any other comic book in 2011.
The first, sold-out printing was over 200,000 copies and that sales number does not include digital copies.
Justice League features the team adventures of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, The Green Lantern, Cyborg, Flash and more.

Milla Jovovich, Kate Beckinsale and Sofia Vergara could soon star in a big screen adaptation of the Danger Girl comic book franchise. Perry White, the boss of both Lois Lane and Superman’s alter ego Clark Kent, is a key figure in the character’s comic book mythos.

The teaser poster for the upcoming Avengers movie has been released at Comic-Con 2011. LOOK:
Emma Stone professed her love for Comic Con, the annual comic book and geek culture festival held in San Diego.
In an interview with Screenrant, Stone said “Comic Con is one of my favorite places in the world.” She is set to appear at this year’s Comic Con to promote the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man movie.
Continuing to gush about the event, she said, “I mean it literally buzzes, being in those convention rooms with 5,000 people, it’s buzzing. And to be a part of something that has that kind of passion, and that kind of enthusiasm behind it is kind of a cool, exciting thing.”

Just two weeks ago it looked like Warner Bros. Television’s planned Wonder Woman revival had stalled after David E. Kelley’s script failed to find a home at a network. But tonight Deadline reports the surprise news that NBC has picked up the pilot.
Announced in October, the modern-day reboot would return the DC Comics character to live-action TV for the first time since 1979, when she was famously portrayed by Lynda Carter.
Warner Brothers has announced that Anne Hathaway has signed on to play Catwoman in the upcoming Batman: Dark Knight Rises. Director Christopher Nolan said “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story.” Tom Hardy will play Bane.

Another high-profile, big-budget film is heading to Vancouver – not a bird or a plane but the next Superman movie.

Marvel Studios and director Joss Whedon have decided to shoot “The Avengers” in New Mexico, where the superhero extravaganza will be the state’s largest film shoot to date, according to Variety.

Actresses that Christopher Nolan has been rumored to have met with include Anne Hathaway, Keira Knightley, Blake Lively, Natalie Portman, Naomi Watts and Rachel Weisz. The original article suggests that Nolan is casting for two different female roles, both that of Bruce Wayne’s romantic interest and that of a female villain.
