Botox is not effective as a weight loss weapon.

A new fad has people injecting Botox into their stomach, in the hopes that it will delay emptying the stomach and encourage a “full” feeling leading to weight loss.

But a study from the Mayo Clinic finds that Botox injections slow the movement of food in the stomach, but does not help weight loss.

Researcher Mark Topazian said, “On the basis of our findings, I would not recommend gastric Botox injections to people who want to lose weight.”

The findings will be published in the journal Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology.

He continued in a release, “There are some risks with this treatment and we found that there was no benefit in terms of body weight loss. Unless future studies show different results I’d advise patients to seek other means of achieving weight loss.”
