Iran’s government says international sanctions have cut income from its oil and gas exports nearly in half.

Gholam Reza Kateb, head of Iran’s parliamentary budget committee said that revenues were down 45% while exports dropped 40%. The United Nations, backed by the Obama administration, has pushed the sanctions on the rogue nation as punishment for pursuing nuclear technology.

In response, the government is pursing an austerity budget but has made no announcements about ceasing its nuclear program.

Iran faces sanctions from the United States, the European Union, and the United Nations.
