Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign has decided to fake moderation in order to capitalize on the candidate’s successful performance in the presidential debate.

Despite independent fact checkers who have debunked Romney’s claims to be moderate during his brief tenure as Massachusetts governor, insiders told the New York Times that the campaign is being retooled.

Evidence of the strategy is already available, as Romney pretended to no longer support anti-choice legislation he pledged to back earlier in the campaign. Romney then flip-flopped on his earlier statement, admitting that he is anti-choice.

Romney’s running mate, Paul Ryan, also has a strong record of restricting women’s reproductive rights.

During the Republican primaries, Romney pledged that he was a “severe” conservative, an admission likely to turn off many general election voters who aren’t as ideologically rigid as primary voters.
