Jack Welch, the former CEO of GE and a major booster of the Republican party claims that positive unemployment figures are being faked by the Obama administration.

Welch responded to the unemployment rate dropping to 7.8% by claiming on Twitter that the jobs numbers were “unbelievable” and alleging that “these Chicago guys will do anything.”

Welch apparently believes that the figures — determined by the Bureau of Labor Statistics — were changed in order to counteract news of President Obama’s poor performance in the first presidential debate. Welch wrote: that Obama “can’t debate so change numbers.”

The former CEO of one of the world’s largest companies did not offer any evidence for his conspiracy theory. Welch is worth a reported $700 million dollars, and he and his third wife would likely benefit from the tax policies promoted by Mitt Romney.

Welch has previously said that the wide disparity between pay for CEOs and average workers does not concern him.
