Conservatives Create Own Reality, Claim Romney Landslide

Conservatives are reacting to Mitt Romney’s failing campaign by creating their own reality.
The website “Unskewed Polls” claims that it is “erasing the bias to show an accurate picture of politics.” While other polling sources show an aggregate lead in national polls of about 2.6% for President Obama, the “unskewed polls” site shows Romney running away with the election by a whopping 7% of the vote.
Here’s a snapshot of “Unskewed Polls” view of the race — not a single poll in their mangling of the facts shows Obama in the lead:
Most serious observers of politics admit that while the partisan makeup of various polls may vary, the consensus is that President Obama has a small lead over Romney.
But some, like Rush Limbaugh’s brother David Limbaugh, appear to be putting stock in “Unskewed Polls.” Here is a recent tweet from the talk radio host’s less famous brother:
Well, looky here: Romney not only leads in Rasmussen but in the “UnSkewedPolls.com average of unskewed polls. LOLexm.nr/QwTXNc

“Unskewed Polls” appears to be an answer to conservative complaints that national polls aren’t showing a large enough disparity between Democratic and Republican poll respondents and are a part of some sort of conspiracy to make it appear as if Obama is leading. But even the right-leaning Rasmussen Reports and Fox News polls currently show a lead by President Obama.
The website is the work of Dean Chambers, who describes himself as “an Internet journalist and commentator” who “launched his writing career by creating an alternative conservative student newspaper while in college.”
On his Twitter page, Chambers boasts that he is “Politically incorrect, member of the Vast right wing conspiracy, the TCOT community, working to make Obama a one term president.”
In his writings on Examiner.com, Chambers appears to regularly post the findings of “Unskewed Polls” as a series of stories showing growing doom for the Obama campaign. A sampling:
- “Mitt Romney winning 301 electoral votes as projected by polling data”
- “Mitt Romney leads 11 percent in new QStarNews presidential poll”
- “Mitt Romney victory likely due to electoral college landscape”
- “Mitt Romney lead in presidential race denied by skewed Fox News poll”
“Unskewed Polls” went online on August 28, the first full day of what was widely viewed as a lackluster Republican National Convention.
Chambers’ alternate reality world is reminiscent of a claim made by a Bush aide, reportedly possibly Karl Rove, to the New York Times during the Bush presidency: “We’re an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality.”
In response, many liberals and Democrats described themselves as members of “the reality-based community.”
