Blue Crush: Obama Outraises Romney By Over $17 Million

Mitt Romney’s increasingly troubled campaign received another body blow Thursday night as fundraising numbers for August were revealed.

President Obama’s surging campaign received $84.8 million from donors, according to documents filed with the Federal Elections Commission. By comparison, Romney only took in $67 million.

Both campaigns are spending money faster than it comes in, but here again the incumbent President is ahead of the game. Romney has $50 million remaining on hand, but Obama has an $89 million war chest to pour into the swing states where he is beginning to get solid leads.

Obama also has more grassroots support, raising $25 million from donations of $200 or less. Reflecting his status as a multimillionaire who has expressed disdain for the lower 47% of Americans, Romney only received about $9.4 million from donations less than or equal to $200.

Outside groups, like Karl Rove’s American Crossroads, are still expected to aid Romney’s campaign with commercials bankrolled by anonymous wealthy donors.
