Joe Biden made a robust defense of President Obama’s actions on the economy at a campaign event today.
Appearing at in Detroit, Biden said — referring to Republicans — that “America is better off today than they left us when they left.”
In recent days, Republicans have sought to claim that the American economy is doing worse under President Obama than under George W. Bush. In fact, there has been almost two years of ongoing job growth in America since the passage of the economic stimulus.
By comparison the U.S. economy was losing 600,000-plus jobs in the last months of Bush’s presidency.
Touting other Obama successes, Biden said, “Let me just sum it up this way folks … Osama Bin Laden is dead and General Motors is alive.”
In the past Mitt Romney argued against the type of mission authorized by President Obama that killed Bin Laden, and he famously wrote an op-ed arguing to “let Detroit go bankrupt” when he opposed Obama’s auto rescue plan.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average has risen nearly 5,000 points — an increase of 58% — since Obama was sworn in as president in January of 2009.
