Former UN Ambassador John Bolton, a senior foreign policy advisor and surrogate for Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign, has praised Rep. Michele Bachmann’s bigoted attacks on an aide to Hillary Clinton.
Appearing on the radio show of conspiracy theorist Frank Gaffney, Bolton said he was “mystified” by criticism of Bachmann’s attacks. In recent days Bachmann has accused Clinton aide Huma Abedin of ties to the controversial Muslim Brotherhood.
Bachmann’s attacks have been repudiated by several Democratic and Republican politicians, including a condemnation on the floor of the Senate by Sen. John McCain (AZ).
Bolton echoed racist radio host Rush Limbaugh (who has also declared his support for the attacks), asking “What is wrong with raising the question?”
Romney has not made any public praise or condemnation of the ongoing smear campaign against Abedin.
