Family DoctorThe attempt by House Republicans to repeal health care reform would add $109 billion to the deficit, according to a new report.

The report, from the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office, evaluated the cost of H.R. 6079 — the bill recently passed in the House to repeal health care reform.

The CBO found “the direct spending and revenue effects of enacting that legislation would cause a net increase in federal budget deficits of $109 billion over the 2013–2022 period.”

Repealing reform would also allow insurance companies to go back to denying coverage for people with pre-existing conditions and would cut off coverage for many children.

President Obama and Senate Democrats have opposed repeal. Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has vowed to repeal the law if he is elected president.
