Senator Wants Gov’t Help To Fight Jenny McCarthy Disease
New York Senator Chuck Schumer has called on the federal government for help to combat the whooping cough epidemic.
Schumer asked for free vaccines in order to fight back against the 300% increase in whooping cough in New York City. The Big Apple had 47 cases of whooping cough through June of 2011. There are now 186 cases of the deadly diseases in the same time period.
Schumer said: “Whooping cough is rearing its ugly head and we need to get on top of this highly contagious disease before it becomes too big to control.”
The failure to vaccinate is seen as key to the whooping cough outbreak. Model and comedian Jenny McCarthy has been at the forefront of wrongly claiming that vaccinations cause autism. The claim has no scientific basis, but has convinced some parents to skip vital vaccinations.
McCarthy has continued to push the false story, even as more children begin to die from diseases they should have been immunized for.
All children need to be immunized, because those protected via immunization help to protect the children that immunization doesn’t work for. Protection against these childhood diseases needs to be as widespread as possible.
