Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann’s baseless allegations against Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin has prompted a death threat.
The New York Post reports that federal and state officials have placed security around Abedin after a New Jersey man made death threats against her.
Bachmann recently claimed that Abedin had familial contacts to the Muslim Brotherhood, one of the world’s largest and most controversial Islamic groups.
Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) described Bachmann’s allegations on the senate floor as “an unwarranted and unfounded attack on an honorable woman, a dedicated American and a loyal public servant.”
Abedin is the wife of former congressman Anthony Weiner. They have a child together.
Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has not commented on Bachmann’s verbal attack.
