Bush & CheneyMitt Romney has tapped an unlikely source for advice on foreign policy: Dick Cheney. Cheney, who was one of the main instigators of the Iraq War, spoke to Romney “at some length” according to an interview with the likely nominee.

Romney said he spoke to Cheney “about foreign-policy matters, in particular the circumstances surrounding some of the foreign-policy decisions of the Bush administration.”

The signature foreign policy of the Bush administration was the war in Iraq. The Bush administration claimed that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction, while Cheney led the campaign to make a connection between Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein and Al Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden.

Both claims turned out to be false, and thousands of American servicemen and women died in Iraq.

Romney was a backer of the Iraq War, and attacked President Obama for bringing the troops home from the conflict.
