Apple Gets iPad Competitor Banned From USA

Apple has won a court victory over a competitor to the iPad, banning its sale in America.

Federal Judge Lucy Koh issued an injunction order in U.S. District court to halt sales of Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablet computer, which runs Google’s Android OS.

The injunction came at Apple’s request, pending the resolution of a patent dispute between the two companies. Apple has accused Samsung of copying the look and feel of the top-selling iPad.

Judge Koh’s order states that Samsung “does not have a right to compete unfairly, by flooding the market with infringing products.” The ban will be in place once Apple posts a $2.6 million bond protecting Samsung if the injunction is found to be unnecessary.

Steve Jobs, the late co-founder of Apple, vowed that “I’m going to destroy Android, because it’s a stolen product. I’m willing to go thermonuclear war on this.” Jobs also promised that, “I will spend every penny of Apple’s $40 billion in the bank, to right this wrong.”
