A new study is busting the myth that testosterone is the secret ingredient that causes men to have a more powerful sex drive than women.

Scientists at the University of Michigan found that increased testosterone levels didn’t increase sex drive, and in the case of women it appears to decrease it. But testosterone did have one side effect in women: it made them masturbate more.

Before this study, it was assumed that the sex enthusiasm gap between men and women was a testosterone issue.

For the study, 196 volunteers were questioned about their sexual habits while a saliva sample was taken to measure their testosterone levels.
