Mitt Romney’s favored economic policies have already been tried and tested in America, and they didn’t work.

A new study from the Center for American Progress reveals that states that cut spending since 2007 have underperformed those who made economic investments during the Bush Recession.

20 states cut spending, while 30 expanded spending.

States that cut spending, as Romney advocates, saw higher increases in unemployment, less jobs and slower growth than before the recession.

States that adopted stimulus policies like President Obama’s performed better on unemployment, private sector jobs, and have faster growing economies.

Adam Hersh, the economist who put together the study, explains that “Dramatically cutting spending in a fragile economy, however, can pull the rug out from nascent economic growth, as we are seeing now here in the United States and around the world.”
