Do Growth Hormone And Testosterone Really Help To Build Muscle?
Scientists have uncovered some shocking data on the effect of growth hormone and testosterone on muscle building during exercise.
Researchers at McMaster University in Canada, writing in the Journal of Applied Physiology and the European Journal of Applied Physiology found that bodybuilders are probably just wasting their money buying growth hormone and testosterone.
Daniel West, the lead author of the study, wrote that “While testosterone is definitely anabolic and promotes muscle growth in men and women at high doses, such as those used during steroid abuse, our findings show that naturally occurring levels of testosterone do not influence the rate of muscle protein synthesis.”
The scientists looked at 56 male participants who trained 5 days a week for 12 weeks. They found no link between muscle growth and the level of testosterone or growth hormone.
