President Obama’s move to implement immigration reform blocked by Republicans is overwhelmingly popular.

A new survey from Bloomberg finds that 64% of respondents back Obama’s initiative to end the deportation of the children of undocumented immigrants. Despite complaints from conservative outlets like Fox News that the Obama plan is “amnesty,” independents support the program by 2 to 1.

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has complained about how President Obama issued the new rule, but has not said that he opposes it or if he would undo the rule if elected President. During the Republican primaries, Romney attacked Texas governor Rick Perry for showing compassion towards undocumented immigrants.

Romney has said that Arizona’s draconian anti-immigration law was a “model” for him.
