Rodney King Dead At 47

Rodney King, whose beating set off the L.A. riots of 1992, has died at the age of 47. King’s publicist confirmed the death to the Associated Press.

People reports that King was found dead at the bottom of a swimming pool. His fiancee called police at 5:25 AM. CPR was administered and he was transported to the hospital. Rodney King was declared dead at 6:11 AM. No cause of death has been determined yet.

King’s video taped beating by LAPD officers, and their subsequent acquittal, set of several days of race riots and looting in Los Angeles. At the height of the chaos, King asked “can’t we all just get along” in an appeal to stop the bloodshed.

After the riots, King had several run-ins with the law. He recently appeared on the reality series, Celebrity Rehab.
