Rupert Murdoch, the media mogul behind Fox News, pushed British Prime Minister Tony Blair to support George W. Bush in invading Iraq.

That information is based on new documents revealed from the collection of former Blair communication boss Alistair Campbell. Campbell’s diaries show that Murdoch called Blair three times in March of 2003, before the UK House of Commons voted on war.

Campbells’ diaries claim that Murdoch promised to use his global media enterprise to “support us” and that “Murdoch was pushing all the Republican buttons, how the longer we waited the harder it got.”

In America, Murdoch’s Fox News was at the head of a massive media campaign pushing for war in Iraq, regularly amplifying the Bush administration’s claims about weapons of mass destuction.

No weapons of mass destruction were ever found in Iraq. 4,487 members of the U.S. military were killed during the Iraq War.
