Euro 2012: Prostitution Boom Expected At Tournament

Ukraine is expecting a boom in its prostitution industry as the Euro 2012 soccer tournament kicks off. One 20-year-old prostitute told the Associated Press that she would be raising her rates and investing in flashy dresses and high heel shoes to take advantage of the influx of customers.

She already earns $1,250 a month, nearly four times the average wage for Ukrainians.

Health groups are concerned about outbreaks of STDs and are handing out condoms in the hopes that prostitutes and their clients will use them. Others are concerned about possible violence against the prostitutes.

Euro 2012 will be held from June 8 to July 1.
