Former baseball star Curt Schilling, an outspoken conservative, owes Rhode Island taxpayers $116 million. Schilling went against his own right-wing rhetoric and obtained a loan from the Rhode Island government in order to back his video game company, 38 Studios. Now that the company has gone bellyup, Schilling has been unable to pay back the money he borrowed.

Forbes reports that Schilling also owes private investors $35 million, but borrowed almost five times as much from the government. An FBI probe has reportedly been opened into the failed enterprise.

Just this past March, Schilling appeared on Fox News with fellow conservative Sean Hannity. As Hannity bashed President Obama for supposedly waging class warfare, Schilling chimed in and claimed that his company was operating “my own skin in the game” and that “I understand at a much deeper fundamental level how our economy works and doesn’t work.”

Schilling also said that, “I’m not looking, never have been, for handouts.”
