Scott Walker Wins Recall Fight In Wisconsin

Wisconsin governor Scott Walker has defeated an effort to recall him. Networks called the closely contested race soon after polls closed at 9 pm EST.

Labor unions had organized the recall of the governor after he and fellow Republicans engineered a move to strip public employee unions of their right to collectively bargain. Democrats had backed the recall effort, and President Bill Clinton recently campaigned in the state for the measure.

Both sides were backed by outside money, creating one of the more expensive races in the state’s history.
