NFL Could Eliminate Kickoffs

NFL LogoThe owner of the New York Giants says the NFL could eliminate kickoffs in the near future.

Speaking to Pro Football Talk, Giants owner John Mara claims that the recent modification of the kickoff spot cut down on injuries to the degree where owners have discussed “whether we should eliminate” kickoffs altogether.

The recent rules change, moving kickoffs up to the 35 yard line, resulted in more touchbacks and less concussions — the result the league was looking for.

Mara says the league is unsure what it would replace the kickoff with.
