Republicans have previously claimed that congressional action on Solyndra, the failed solar company that received some federal backing, was about the use of tax dollars to invest in private enterprise. But a top House Republican may have blown the cover story.
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) told the E&E News service that the hearings were actually a political ploy to help Republicans in the fall elections.
Discussing Solyndra-type partnerships between the government and private industry, Jordan said, “Ultimately, we’ll stop it on Election Day, hopefully.”
Jordan went on to say, “bringing attention to these things helps the voters and citizens of the country make the kind of decision that I hope helps them as they evaluate who they are going to vote for in November.”
The admission that the ongoing investigations into Solyndra are merely a Republican vote-getting tool is sure to cause an outcry from Democrats and other interested observers.
