Gabrielle Douglas Could Be USA Gymnastics Secret Weapon At 2012 Olympics

Jordyn Wieber got the headlines when she won this weekend’s American Cup gymnastics championship, but Team USA’s secret weapon in London could be 16 year old Gabby Douglas. Douglas actually outscored Wieber but was not eligible for the championship as an alternate.

Hopes are high for a repeat of the 1996 Atlanta Games, where Team USA brought home the gold. The depth of Team USA has been praised by coaches. In addition to Wieber and Douglas, former Olympic medalists Nastia Liukin and Shawn Johnson are likely to fight for a spot on the roster, in addition to international champions Chellsie Memmel, Bridget Sloan and Rebecca Bross.
