Bob McDonnellVirginia governor Bob McDonnell is backing off support of a bill that would force women to have a vaginal ultrasound probe before having an abortion. McDonnell, who previously said he would sign the bill into law, appears to be reacting to widespread protest from women against the mandate.

The governor’s office now claims he will simply “review” the law when it reaches his desk.

A recent silent protest at the Virginia state capitol brought increased pressure against the radical measure.
