President Obama will reluctantly enter the multi-million dollar “Super PAC” competition, giving the green light to Democratic mega-donors to finance the largely unregulated campaign committees.
Politico reports that Obama will direct top Obama bundlers to fund Priorities USA Action, the Super PAC run by former administration deputy spokesman Bill Burton.
The official announcement will reportedly be made on Tuesday during a conference call to members of Obama’s National Finance Committee.
Currently Super PACs are doing much of the spending during the Republican nomination process, blanketing the airwaves with ads in support of Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich.
President Obama opposes the decision in Citizen’s United to allow unlimited spending in political campaigns.
