Allen WestAllen West, a tea party-backed congressman from Florida raised questions about his mental stability with comments he made on Saturday arguing that President Obama and other top Democrats should “get the hell out of the United States of America.”

West was speaking at a meeting of Palm Beach, FL Republicans when he promoted the conspiracy theory that President Obama, Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz were “enslaving the entrepreneurial will and spirit of the American people.”

Despite West’s wild claims, the stock market has rebounded under President Obama’s tenure. The Dow Jones Industrial Average has increased over 4,000 points — 52% since President Obama was sworn in.

During his time in the military, West was charged with violating articles 128 (assault) and 134 (general article) of the Uniform Code of Military Justice. He was eventually fined for his misconduct.

In 2011 West described Rep. Keith Ellison, who is a Muslim, as the “antithesis of the principles upon which this country was established.”

West is being opposed in 2012 by Democrat Patrick Murphy.

Conspiracy theories like the one West promoted have increasingly gained currency on the right since Obama’s election. At various times top conservatives have claimed that Obama was not born in America, has a private army, is a black nationalist and is secretly a socialist. All of those and other conspiracies have been disproven, but remain articles of faith amongst diehard conservatives. [The Blaze]
