Recovery Watch: GDP Growth Up 2.8%

The Commerce Department released data today showing the gross domestic product of the United States at 2.8% for the most recent quarter. Economic growth between October and December of 2011 was higher than the previous two quarters — 1.8% in the third quarter, 1.3% in the second quarter.

That is the fastest growth in the U.S. economy since 2010. Combined with recent figures showing an improving labor market, the U.S. economy is growing at moderate speed as it emerges from the Bush Recession.

President Obama has proposed a series of job proposals outside economists say would further improve the economy, but congressional Republicans oppose the measure.
