Hero FBI Agent Dies Saving Drowning Teen

Daniel KnappFBI special agent Daniel Knapp died while rescuing a young adult swimmer. While at Playa Escondida beach in Puerto Rico, Agent Knapp was approached by friends of the struggling young swimmer and instantly leaped into the water to save the swimmer’s life.

Agent Knapp was able to get the swimmer into the custody of Puerto Rican police, but was overcome by the water and drowned. Joseph S. Campbell, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI San Juan Field Office said in a release, “Special Agent Knapp exemplified each of the ideals of the FBI, as well as possessing those traits which define a genuine wonderful person. He died a hero, saving another life. We will miss him greatly.”

Agent Knapp was 43 and served in the FBI for 6 years. He is survived by his parents and four brothers.
