Elizabeth Warren pictureDemocrat Elizabeth Warren is ahead of Republican Senator Scott Brown in a new poll of the Massachusetts US Senate race. Warren leads Brown by 4% in a new poll from UMass-Amherst. While her lead is within the poll’s margin of error, UMass Amherst political scientist Brian Schaffner says “these numbers could mean trouble for Scott Brown.” Schaffner notes that for an incumbent to be below 50% this far out from election day is a negative sign.

Warren has made a name for herself as a voice for consumers, recently leading the creation of a consumer protection agency within the federal government. Brown, who won an upset election to take the seat of the late Ted Kennedy, has received support from the financial industry.
