Mitt Romney pictureYesterday Mitt Romney’s presidential campaign held several conference calls in order to respond to the Democratic ad labeling him a flip flopper, but did not refute the main charge.

Romney’s campaign chose to describe the ad as a distraction from President Obama’s economic record (without noting that the economy is still suffering the after-effects of the Bush Recession), but did not deny that the candidate flip-flops on numerous issues.

As MSNBC reported, “As the conference call and email marathon wore on, it became apparent that the subject matter of the ad itself — and the fact that President Obama frequently talks about the economy, as he did last week in New Hampshire — was almost secondary to the Romney campaign’s response strategy.”

Similarly, the Star Tribune reported, “[Tim] Pawlenty did not directly address the flip-flopping allegation.” Gov. Tim Pawlenty was the Romney campaign’s point man in response to the Obama ad.
