Mitt RomneyMitt Romney’s presidential campaign reacted furiously Monday to a new Democratic ad that attacks him as a flip flopper. In response to the video, which paints a portrait of Romney as an opportunist who will say anything to get elected, Romney’s campaign held multiple conference calls attempting to push back on the ad.

Leading the charge for Romney’s pushback has been Minnesota governor Tim Palwenty, whose own run for the presidency ended in disaster. He has been aided by some House Republicans and state legislators.

Romney’s campaign hasn’t strongly rebutted the central point of the online videos — that Romney is a flip flopper — preferring instead to describe the ads as an attempt to distract from President Obama’s record on financial matters.

The ad shows Romney holding multiple positions on abortion, the bailout, helping the auto industry and support of President Reagan. [NY Times]
