Romney Foreign Policy: “Sit Down With Your Attorneys”
Mitt Romney would bring a decidedly less aggressive posture to U.S. foreign policy, based on his answers to questions about Iran and Iraq. In 2007, Romney was asked what he would do about congressional authorization for a theoretical strike on Iran. In response, Romney answered, “You sit down with your attorneys and tell you what you have to do.”
Romney was asked another question about U.S. policy in Iraq under President George W. Bush and answered, “You know, we’re going to let the lawyers sort out what he needed to do and what he didn’t need to do.”
In 2007 as a presidential candidate when asked about the possibility that Osama Bin Laden was in Pakistan, President Obama said in a debate that “If we have actionable intelligence about high-value terrorist targets and President Musharraf won’t act, we will.”
In April of 2011, President Obama authorized a covert operation to kill or capture Bin Laden. On May 1, 2011, Bin Laden was killed by a Navy SEAL team. [Boston.com] [Politico]
