Republican outreach to the military suffered a setback Thursday night when audience members at the Fox News/YouTube debate booed an active duty soldier. The outburst came when a gay soldier, Stephen Hill, asked the GOP presidential candidates if they would turn back the clock on the recently repealed “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” rule.
The audience then booed the serviceman, in an incident reminiscent of the tea party crowd cheering the death of someone for lack of insurance.
Former Senator Rick Santorum described equal rights for gay soldiers as a special privilege. [Huffington Post]
