Attack The Poor: Bachmann Open To Lowering Minimum Wage

Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann opened a new front in the resurgent conservative attack on poor Americans by indicating she would be open to lowering the federal minimum wage. At a campaign stop in Florida, where she insulted a local sub shop by referring to Subway in a speech, Bachmann told a reporter that “I’m not married to anything” when she was asked if she would be interested in bringing American wages down to compete with overseas labor costs.

A move like that by Bachmann could actually hurt the economy. A panel of economists recently found that an increase in the minimum wage could give employment a boost. [AP]
