A new poll shows that Egyptians do not favor an Iran-style theocracy after that nation’s recent political uprising that ousted long-time leader Hosni Mubarak. Gallup’s poll showed that 69% of Egyptians favored religious groups having an advisory role in government, but preferred not to have them lead the government, as in Iran. Only 15$ of those polled support the Muslim Brotherhood, a religiously hardline group.

Many American political observers on the right, including Fox News’ Glenn Beck, had said that the Egyptian revolution was a precursor to a radcial Islamic “caliphate” that would sweep the world.
