Governor Scott Walker may have awakened a sleeping giant. According to to police estimates, 85,000 people rallied at the Wisconsin state capitol in Madison in order to oppose the union-busting legislation signed into law by Walker on Friday.

The law, passed on a party line vote by the state’s Republicans in what some claim is an abuse of power, limits the rights of unionized public employees – taking away their ability to collectively bargain for their wages. Walker has been willing to go further than many other Republican governors in his attack on union workers, as Chris Christie (R-NY) and Rick Scott (R-FL) both declined to endorse similar legislation.
